Half an hour to spare at Ashford International

I have spared many half hours of my life at Ashford International.

Mostly commuting to and from work, of course, but not always, even Ashford International can be a preamble to the unexpected. And, if in the right frame of mind, this industrial looking station in the middle of the Kent countryside can have an almost surreal, dreamy quality that Lorraine Bowen has captured with great skill in this song:

Who knows if it will blow your mind after all.

  1. Very good. One ought to add Ashford International is a very French station. The international terminal and platforms are operated by the SNCF-owned Eurostar. It boasts two 18 car platforms, an impressive foyer, a large international lounge, 3 cafes and 2 bureaux de change – which are all deserted for hours on end. On a good day 6 trains call there to pick up passengers; on a quite one as little as 3.
